Siberian Huskies are beautiful and graceful dogs. They are friendly, loyal, good with children, other animals, and extremely intelligent. Given their friendly nature, Huskies do not have strong instincts as a watch dog. Huskies are a highly pack oriented breed. They are happiest when they are with their families and/or other dogs. A Husky that is left alone for long periods of time can become destructive. They are known to chew and dig when left alone or if they become bored.
Siberian Huskies are considered a working breed by the American Kennel Club. As a result, they need to be exercised daily. They can be a wonderful walking or jogging partner. It is of utmost importance that a Husky never be off his/her leash unless they are in a penned in area. Siberian Huskies have strong instincts to run. Instincts can prove to be much stronger forces than any amount of training received by a Husky. An owner must always keep this in mind.
Huskies are very clean dogs. They will groom themselves often. Siberian Huskies shed their entire coat of fur twice a year. During this time, it is not uncommon to have a bushel basket full of fur. It is suggested that brushing your Husky a few times a day will help this process move along more quickly. |
